The family and friends of a teenager who died this year have raised hundreds of pounds in her memory.

“Olivia’s 16th Birthday Bash” was organised by the family of 15-year-old Olivia Walker, from Halewood, following her death in February

Among those who attended yesterday’s event was 12-year-old Aidan Jackson, from Widnes.

The Ormiston Chadwick Academy pupil, who has Asperger’s syndrome, handed over a cheque for more than £1,200 to the Olivia Alice Foundation.

Olivia’s mum Kim told the Sunday ECHO: “We want to help other children with complex needs, with medical equipment and breaks away. As a family we’re trying to make something decent out of a tragedy.”

Olivia, who suffered problems with several disabilities, was a pupil at Bluebell Park in Kirkby and spent time at Claire House Children’s Hospice and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

Yesterday’s event was held in Halewood and included an auction, bouncy castle and disco as well as Aidan’s presentation to the foundation of his fundraising efforts.

Caroline Jackson, mum of Aidan, said: “He originally set himself a target of £845 which is the equivalent of a mile of pennies.

“We met Olivia’s family a few years ago through Halton Swimming Club and from there became friends with Olivia.

“He’s just been constantly getting donations.

“People heard about it on Facebook and have turned up at the house with bags of pennies.

“I’m extremely proud of him. He has his own battles, he needed a wheelchair a lot when he was younger but he always says he wants to do something to help other people.”

Caroline added: “Olivia melted everybody when they met her. She didn’t speak but she had the biggest smile and the brightest blue eyes.”
